Decameron in Commedia dell'Arte style
"Decameron: Stories for a Time of Plague"
Set against the background of the Black Death of 1348, Giovanni Boccaccio’s undisputed masterpiece, Decameron, is populated by a diverse gallery of nobles, doctors, lawyers, students, tradesmen, troubadours, peasants, servants, thieves, parasites, gluttons and lovers, who come and go telling their stories, sharing both life tragedies and comedies. “Ladies and gentlemen, come, take shelter here! The plague is haunting our city and this theatre is really your only safe place… we’ll vaccinate you with entertaining stories and songs!”
While the Decameron has earned a reputation for its many bawdy stories, it also contains plenty of tales which reputable citizens can happily enjoy with their spouse and children! Mindful of our hosts and our audience, we have accordingly selected appropriate tales, so to ensure an evening of delight and diversion. Recommended for audiences aged 10 and above.
